The Heart Chakra: Your Healing Center

The Heart Chakra is the wellspring of love and compassion in your life. It is located in the center of the chest at your heart. It is the center of your deep bonds with other beings, your sense of compassion, your feelings of love, generosity and kindness. The Heart Chakra is your healing center and the ultimate healing force. The energy of the Heart Chakra allows you to recognize that you are interconnected within an intricate net of relationships extending through life that unites everything together. When you live your life from your Heart Chakra, you freely give compassion and kindness to others, you inspire compassion and kindness in others, and you create a safe and supportive environment to swim in. Others will naturally trust you as they will feel your openhearted warmth, they will feel your unconditional love and acceptance, and they will feel at peace around your kindhearted spirit.

The color of the Heart Chakra is green. Green is composed of yellow and blue in equal parts. Green is the energy of love and transformation. It allows you to transform the needs of your lower Chakras and open up to love and become more loving and compassionate. The Heart Chakra is where the energies of the lower and upper Chakras meet and are transformed and integrated into a more spiritual aspect of yourself. Driven by transformation and integration, the Heart Chakra is said to be the bridge between the earthly and spiritual planes.

The Heart Chakra is where you reach beyond yourself and connect with something greater and acquire a deeper understanding.

Green is the color of growth, life and balance. Through balance you find the place from which you can love, form healthy and nourishing relationships, and give and receive love. The energy of green is soothing and calming. If you unfold the petals of your Heart Chakra, you find the seat of compassion, not only for others, but for yourself as well. You begin to radiate love; you begin to sense the interconnectedness of all of life.

On a physical level, the color green relates to the heart, lungs, chest, shoulders, arms and breasts. People with strong green energy stand tall and radiate openness. Those with weak green energy appear tight in the upper body, they are slouching with their shoulders drawn forward, protecting the heart center.

Mentally, green means growth, expanding and branching out. Green generates connections with others and with deeper parts of yourself. On an emotional level, green is an expansive color. The gift of this Heart Chakra color is that you radiate peace and love to let others know that they are accepted as they are.

The spiritual aspect of green energy is instinctual knowing and growing into spirit. The developmental task of the Heart Chakra is developing trust in yourself and others, and forming loving relationships with family and friends.

Since the Heart Chakra is the portal between the lower and upper Chakras, it is the center of integration of earthly matters and spiritual aspirations. The Heart Chakra does not see these energies as separate, and the work of the Heart Chakra is to integrate them effortlessly and harmoniously.

The Heart Chakra is all about connecting and relating; with the emphasis on love, giving and receiving, and being open to it in relationships.

Love is the energy that helps transform emotions and experiences, and it’s an essential element in any relationship, whether it’s with others or yourself. Love experienced through the Heart Chakra is not just about romance, but about going beyond the limitations of the ego and personal preoccupations to open up more fully to compassion and acceptance of all that is, as it is. When you live from your heart and your heart energy is opened and balanced, you can see clearly and align yourself in any situation, no matter how challenging it is, with discernment and compassion.

Balanced Heart Chakra Energy

When the Heart Chakra is balanced, your energy is open and flowing freely. You are not only kind and loving to others, you are also kind and loving to yourself. You trust yourself to know when you need to say no and when you need self-love and self-care. To be open to love is to reach to the depths of the sea and connect with your true essence, your spirit, and your soul. When your Heart Chakra is open, you are in alignment with love for yourself and in your relationships. You are able to give and receive love easily, and you appreciate others without feeling sorry for anyone.

Blocked Heart Chakra Energy

If your Heart Chakra is closed you will lack empathy and feel uncomfortable in your relationships. You may also be co-dependent, give too much of yourself, and feel like you have to please others to be loved. An overactive Heart Chakra will create suspicion in others and indicates your heart is out of alignment. It also creates jealousy, stinginess and selfishness. At the physical level, it can manifest as respiratory ailments, such as lung infection, bronchitis or asthma, and circulatory and heart-related issues. If you consistently have an issue with these conditions in your life, clearing your Heart Chakra from grief, pain and suffering may help you recover from them and lead a healthy life, both emotionally and physically.

How to Find Balance

There are many ways you can balance the Heart Chakra. The simplest is to surround yourself with things that you love. Deep breathing is ideal to cleanse the Heart Chakra. Breathing in fresh air is very healing, and anything that allows you to be outdoors is even better.

Regular meditation is also useful for healing the Chakras. Imagine a ball of green healing energy in your chest, gently removing the blockage and opening your heart. Finally, practice letting go of anger or fear in your everyday life. When you find yourself holding onto a negative emotion, take a deep breath and imagine a green light pouring into your body and washing it away, filling you with love. With practice, this will help you avoid falling into negative patterns and react from a place of compassion instead.

Depending on the severity of the blockage, you may need to incorporate Chakra healing meditation, yoga or other forms of energy healing, from Reiki to acupuncture and sound therapy – such as Chakra bowls or tuning forks. Aromatherapy is another useful tool for Chakra balancing. To heal the Heart Chakra, floral essential oils such as rose, jasmine and bergamot will assist in balancing the energy or increase movement and energy flow.

The use of Chakra crystals and healing stones for Chakra cleansing is also common. The vibrational frequencies of crystals can help restore balance when there is a deficiency or excess of energy leading to a blocked or overactive Heart Chakra. Like the Chakras, each stone has its own frequency. Although it is common practice to choose stones of the same color as their corresponding Chakra, it isn’t always necessary as long the stone has the same vibrational frequency as its associated Chakra. Some green stones and other options for healing the Heart Chakra are emerald, jade and rose quartz.

When exploring ways you can restore balance to your Chakra system, consider adding healing foods to your diet. Just as each Chakra has its own vibrational frequency, color, and function, there are also foods that help bolster individual Chakra function. When concentrating on the Heart Chakra, consider adding naturally green-colored foods, such as avocado, spinach, broccoli, lettuce, asparagus, artichokes and limes.

Many people don’t think about optimizing their energy or emotions using tea, but it’s also an easy and inexpensive way to create balance in your Chakras. To energetically increase the love in your life, rose tea can help to activate your Heart Chakra. Rose tea is mildly sedative and can be considered an anti-inflammatory. Energetically, it helps with self-love and is known to help attract love by healing your vibration. It helps you heal a broken heart which you can experience after losing someone or a stressful life event. Alternatively, you can make a strong tea and add it to your bathwater and soak in it while reading or meditating.
